The Great Comic Book Heroes (1965)

Great Comic Book Heroes

My first comic book memory is of this book, read many times at the local library when I was a child.  I also found Dick Tracy and Little Orphan Annie collections, but this was the one that got me.

Great Heroes Table of ContentsThese (mostly) origin stories from the “Golden Age” of comics introduced me to the Flash, Hawkman, Green Lantern and the Spectre.  And it made me rethink the Batman and Superman I thought I knew from television.

Hawkman in actionI now own a copy of this book, an old library copy I found at Powell’s Books in Oregon.  I suppose there is a slim chance it is the same copy I read as a boy.

Original collection, Current collection
