The Brave and Bold #118 (1975)

I usually picked a comic off the rack at our local 7-11 based on its cover. B & B #118 had an awesome cover – Batman and Wildcat going at it gladiator-style while the Joker stands by laughing. The story inside is even nuttier involving a deadly bacteria, a little dog whose blood carries the only anti-bodies, a dognapping and attempted dog murder, a surprising escape and other craziness. Weirdly, the story works. Only the Joker would be crazy enough to do the things he does here, and only Wildcat is tough and skilled enough to take on Batman in the ring in a believable forced match. The story was written by Bob Haney with artwork by my favorite Bat-artist, Jim Aparo.

And in this corner ...
