Marvel Preview #9: Man-God (1976)

Adapted by Roy Thomas.  Artwork by Tony DeZuniga.

This comic is a partial adaptation of the 1930 novel, “Gladiator,” by Philip Wylie.  The comic does feel like a novel, being more character driven than action-focused.  This fits Wylie’s original story well, but feels a bit strange in a comic.  Rather than an action tale, it is really about a man with extraordinary powers who cannot find his place in the world.

The novel may have influenced Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, creaters of Superman, and Stan Lee, creator of Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk.  (You can read the public domain novel here.)
